Recently I was reading an article about "Tried and Tested Tools" which lists 28 tools that can help you in your artistic endeavors. (http://www.northlightshop.com/.) One item that I thought was really clever was the use of cellophane. Initially I thought "what....???" The artist in question uses it to check the tonality of their work. If doing a painting that is predominantly green he views his work through red cellophane and it shows him the tonal range. The idea is to view the work through a colour which is the complementary colour to the what is in the painting.
Then I thought to make it easier to use if you have a spare mat board from a frame you could glue it to the board and then you have a nice easy tool to use. I have tried this and it is amazing how it shows up the different values.

New Studio
I am counting down the sleeps until I get the keys to my new studio space. I am going to be part of a group studio and gallery here in Geelong. I know some of the artists not all so it will be great to get to know new people and share ideas. Hoping those creativity vibes fly around the space. It will also encompass a Gallery which in a couple of weeks will have an opening exhibition.
Going into a studio away from home makes me feel "grown up". I really have outgrown making do and want a dedicated space that shows I am professional and I am serious. I have studied for a long time and had to change my lifestyle to get here and I know its what I am meant to be doing. I love being creative and I couldn't stop even if I wanted to. Its magical, consuming, frustrating but oh so exciting. I wonder now what I did with my time before! I will keep you up to date on where and what is on.

New name
Due to lifestyle changes I am reverting back to my maiden name of 'BARNES" . All my artwork will now be under the name Jennifer Barnes although quite a few pieces still have my married name on them of Ford.
Looking forward to this new chapter and creating some great works. I have been focused on painting in acrylic recently and enjoying the change from oils. Here's a shot of what I have been doing one still in progress as having trouble with the legs!!
